Cityflo, one of India’s leading premium bus and cab services, has introduced a pioneering AI-powered safety system designed to enhance both driver and road safety across its growing fleet. This development marks a significant step in how technology can shape accountability and consistency within India’s mobility sector—well beyond the typical focus on electrification and sleek app interfaces.
At the heart of this innovation is a dual-technology integration: Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS). ADAS supports drivers with real-time alerts for on-road conditions, while DMS keeps a close eye on behavior inside the cabin. Together, they form an always-on safety net that doesn’t just react to problems, but actively works to prevent them.
“As the industry grows, while we add more buses—we need stronger systems to run them better,” said Rushabh Shah, Chief Business Officer at Cityflo. “Our belief is that operational excellence begins with full transparency on what is happening inside and outside the cabin. This rollout is about institutionalising safety and performance—not just reacting to lapses, but preventing them altogether.”

India's road safety statistics—11% of global road fatalities despite housing only 1% of the world’s vehicles—paint a stark picture. With over 90% of accidents linked to human error, Cityflo’s tech-forward solution tackles the problem at its root.
This moment also reflects how far the company has come. In a recent post, one of Cityflo’s co-founders shared:
“When we first started Cityflo, we were just a couple of years out of IIT Bombay. No background in mobility. No playbook to follow. Just 4 people dealing with a frustrating commute and a resolve that there had to be a better way to get to work,” Rushabh Shah posted on LinkedIn
Their early vision was to create a system that was always online—offering real-time feedback and operational clarity. The team began with GPS tracking, moved to OBD devices to monitor vehicle health, and now, AI-powered dashcams that deliver live insights into driver alertness and road safety.
“A few years ago, this kind of tech in buses felt futuristic. But we’re already there,” the co-founder added. “As new systems emerge to solve the very real challenges of mass transit, we plan to be right at the front, adopting what works.”
At Lightbox, we’ve believed in Cityflo’s approach from the start: solving for urban inefficiencies through technology, discipline, and a relentless focus on the rider experience. This launch is a reminder of what’s possible when infrastructure meets innovation—safely, intelligently, and at scale.
